The Central Student Council is organizing a fundraising evening for Ukraine on Monday 11 April. During the evening musicians will perform and students can talk about the impact of the war on their lives. ‘We think it is important for the UvA to show its commitment to the situation in Ukraine.’
This fundraising event is a collaboration between the Central Student Council (in Dutch: CSR) and the Russian musician Maya Fridman. Russian, Ukrainian and Dutch musicians will perform. They were found through Fridman's network or by members of the CSR,' says CSR chairman Manish Jhinkoe-rai (24). ‘We find it important to draw attention to the situation,’ says Jhinkoe-rai. ‘As UvA we can show our social involvement in this way. With this fundraising action we can actually contribute something.’
Not only has the war triggered a large flow of refugees. Many countries also condemned the invasion. These countries have imposed economic sanctions on Russia, which not only affect the Russian economy, but also the economy worldwide. In the message about the fundraising campaign, the CSR writes that 'at the UvA, students from all over the world study. We are all affected by this invasion in one way or another.
The fundraising will take place in the Auditorium (Aula) of the UvA in the Lutheran Church at Spui on 11 April from 19:00 to 21:30. Tickets are in the form of donations of fifteen euros via Giro555 (click here). The program includes performances by Nicolas Schwartz, Remy van Kesteren and Borys Fedoro.
