This year the Roeterseilandcampus will host three works of art from the Amsterdam Light Festival, the annual light festival that can be seen at various locations around the city during the winter months. On the chimney of the REC-J/K is a ladder of light going nowhere.

The ladder artwork on the chimney of building-J/K was created by Italian artist Massimo Uberti and is called Scala a pioli, simply ladder. The little ladder goes nowhere. Or is it going up? And what is up there? Who will know! In the water of Plantage Muidergracht you can see the artwork Whole in the sky by sculpture artist Gabriel Lester. And a little further on, next to Building M of the Business School, you can see in the water a large installation of luminous strands. It most closely resembles DNA, Jason Krugmen's artwork Particle Matters. The thousands of dots of light spin back and forth.

The theme of the eleventh edition of the festival is Imagine beyond. Everything around us is changing, the light artworks show, just as it has been for the past two years during the corona pandemic. This year's artworks transport viewers to another world, according to the festival’s site. The festival also faced change due to the corona pandemic. Last year, due to the evening lockdown, some artworks had to turn off their lights after five in the afternoon. This year, the festival continues as usual. The canal tours past the artworks are sailing again.

The lights of the Amsterdam Light Festival are on between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. You can look at them until Jan. 22.
