Another pro-Palestinian demonstration in REC-A
As part of a generic international strike calling attention to the Palestinian issue, several hundred people gathered in the main hall of the A-building of the Roeterseiland Campus (REC) this afternoon. The strikers demand a stance from Dutch and European institutions regarding the position of the Palestinians in the war between Israel and Hamas.
Since early afternoon, another political manifestation has been going on in the central hall of the REC-A building. Several hundred students and activists are demanding more attention and a stance from the UvA, the Dutch and American governments and the EU in the war that has been raging between Israel and Hamas since October 7.

Since three o’clock this afternoon, the A-hal is filled with students and others. Pro-Palestinian speeches are made through a megaphone. Several attendees carry Palestinian flags and wear Palestinian scarves. The central student council (CSR) of the UvA had previously expressed majority support for the strike (and thus the demonstration). Yesterday, students and others held a sit-in in the A Hall.

In the coming days, demonstrations will be organized throughout Amsterdam and by various organizations to call attention to the so-called Nakba, the Arab name for the expulsion of Palestinian inhabitants from the territory they inhabited that became Israel in the years 1947-1949. Just this weekend, the Amsterdam Dance Event is also taking place.
