Asva Chairperson Izabella Voortman steps down

Chairperson of student union Asva Izabella Voortman has resigned her position ‘‘in good consultation’’ with the other board members. She let Folia know this by phone. This was due to ‘‘mutual disagreements.’’ Several attempts had been made to bridge them, but these proved unsuccessful.

What exactly these differences of opinion were about, however, Voortman would not say. ‘‘It is better to keep these matters within the organization,’’ she said. Before Voortman became Asva chairperson, she was a board member of the Young Democrats, D66's political youth movement. This gave the student union a liberal profile. Whether a difference in political views is the reason for her sudden departure from the activist union is possible, but not certain.

After the Asva's general membership meeting on February 8th, it will become clear who will succeed Voortman and exactly what the composition of the board will look like. Asva has no comment on the matter.
