Employees and students of the Technical University of Delft (TU Delft) do not want a lawsuit to be brought against the Education Inspectorate. After a critical inspection report on social insecurity at the university, they would rather see the administration invest its time and money in solutions.
Last Friday, the university published a highly critical report by the Education Inspectorate. It did so to prevent people from hearing the news from the newspaper, a spokesperson told university newspaper Delta.
In that report, the inspectors accuse the university’s administrators and supervisors of doing too little to combat social insecurity within the institution. There is “mismanagement,” according to the inspection. The minister is requiring a recovery plan within three months.
TU Delft believes the investigation is flawed and announced it is filing a lawsuit against the inspectorate. But nearly 400 employees and students of the university have since indicated that they see no merit in that. In a petition published in Delta, they call on the administration not to go to court.
“Better to draw up a plan”
The employees are instead glad that the inspection is putting the problem on the agenda, they say. “It would be better to use the time, effort, and money to draw up a good plan to strengthen social safety.”
The fact that the administration wants to go to court, according to the signatories, proves that the managers of TU Delft put their own interests above those of the affected employees. “The social safety of employees deserves priority. We are disappointed and dissatisfied with the response of the board.”
